ABSTRACT: Image processing is an active research area with applications in many fields. Sofia Visa will illustrate such an application in Biology by using morphometric (boundary) data of tomato fruits in conjunction with elliptic Fourier shape modeling and Bayesian classification techniques to find the optimum number of shape categories of the tomato fruits. The modeling results show that there are nine distinct shape categories, which are also distinguishable by the human eye.
